To: BHS Class of 1960, BHS Basketball Team of 1959-60 and “O”

Owen Davidson conceived and nurtured a wonderfully successful 50th year reunion of the 1959-60 Basketball team, cheerleaders, faculty and supporters. Thank you Owen aka Owy, Big “O”….

Most team members participated: Bob Marik ’60, Tim Klodnick ’61, Owen Davison ’60, Jim Granowicz ’60 (deceased), Don Granowicz ’62, Phil Street ’60, WynnPfahl ’62, Lyall Smith ’60 (on the bench from recent surgery), Frank Lid ’60, Dave Sladky ’60, Coach Becker (deceased and represented by his oldest son, Brian Becker '69), Managers Dan Biggs ’60 and Jim Lavelle ‘60. Cheerleaders were represented by KristieTowner Kohl ’61, Sherry Herdtner ’60 and Sue Stefan ‘62.

Bud Wisnieski and Jack Mercer represented the faculty. Supporters from the Class of 1960 included Jan Mamich, Betty & Dan Ziegler, Larry Pabin, Sally Bonacker Warburton, Nancy Rask Baldwin, Vanetta Sahley Zervas and Mike McAllister. Representing other classes were Bob Dostal '61, Sue Schultz ‘67, and Jack Kohl ‘57. Many wives, husbands, companions also participated.

The team was introduced at the half time of the Bees versus Berea game (Bees won). Fans applauded as each member of the team was introduced. Perhaps, in respect to their elders, the fans were amazed at our ability to move from the hard bleacher seats to center court; but we know they were applauding Coach Becker’s outstanding contributions to our school.

While this was a reunion of the 1959-60 Basketball team, it was much more. It was heartfelt Team thank you to Coach Becker.

During the years the Class of 1960 attended schools on Wallings and Royalton Roads, we were fortunate. Many teachers did more than teach subjects. They shared lifelong skills.

Yes, Coach Becker was our industrial arts teacher and coach. More importantly, Coach Becker was a leader, a role model, a gentleman, a thoughtful disciplinarian. He set an example for us, “his kids,” to follow as adults. He taught us, whether we realized it or not, how to become responsible, caring adults.

Thank you, coach, teacher, second father, Mr. Becker.

Your “BHS” Kids
