Daniel Biggs (Northfield, OH) After graduation in 1960, Dan stayed in the Brecksville area and joined the Brecksville Police Department as a dispatcher. Upon completion of a tour in the US Air Force as an Electronic Cryptograph Repairman at the Strategic Air Command B-52 Base at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, Dan returned to the Police Department as a patrolman.

While ‘walking the beat’ during the Christmas season of 1965, Dan met Janet Leyerle who was a drug store clerk at Shaw’s Drug Store in Brecksville Center. Dan and Jan exchanged their marriage vows on September 24, 1966 and recently celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary. They both enjoy their time traveling and cruising in the South. They have three children; Dan Junior, Melissa and David, along with three grandchildren; Austin, Alex and Neil. Dan and Jan’s two children, Melissa and David are twins as well as Dan Junior’s children Austin and Alex. Dan and Jan’s oldest son Dan Junior followed Dan’s hobby of electronics and is an Electronics Engineer. Their son David followed Dan’s avocation as a pilot and is an Air Transport Pilot with Net-Jets. Their daughter Melissa works for the Cleveland Clinic as a medical coder.

In 1972 Dan fulfilled a life-long dream of becoming a pilot. With the use of his G.I. Bill, Dan earned the pilot privileges of Commercial Pilot, with Instrument Rating and Multi Engine Land Airplane. Dan has owned three partnerships in aircraft and is currently sharing a partnership in his third light aircraft with his son David. They both enjoy the sport of flying together when time permits.

In 1983 Dan retired from the Brecksville Police Department due to a back injury after attaining the rank of Police Sergeant, with duties of Platoon Supervisor, City Photographer and Deputy Director of the Brecksville Disaster Services Agency.

After several years of volunteer work with the Cleveland National Air Show and the Budweiser Grand Prix of Cleveland, Dan was hired by the management company who produced both events. Dan continues to work as the Director of Operations for the Cleveland National Air Show. His responsibilities include coordination of all military and civilian performers as well as all coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration. In 1991, Dan was named the operations agent for the Russian Mig-29 Friendship Tour of the United States and was responsible for coordinating all transient flights with the US State Department. His most memorable experience was to land on board the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln while flying in the Navy’s C-2 Greyhound supply aircraft. The Abraham Lincoln was doing sea trials off the coast of San Diego. The ship’s tour ended with a catapult launch off the deck of the Lincoln.

Throughout the past 50 years since graduation, Dan has enjoyed driving buses, first as a school bus driver with the BBH School System and then with the Brecksville Road Transit Company.  He is still employed by BRT Charter Service as a Charter Coach driver.
