David
Frederick (Savannah,
GA) graduated from Purdue
University with a BS in Forest
Management, working all summers at National Forests in Oregon. David served in the Peruvian Andes
for two years with Peace Corps. He met his wife of 41 years at Cornell University while training for the
Peruvian assignment. He returned to Purdue for a MS in Industrial
Administration. He then worked for two years on a Firestone Rubber Plantation
in Liberia, West Africa.
David returned to work in US with Dow Chemical
Company in several sales and marketing jobs while living in Minneapolis,
Atlanta, Birmingham, Memphis and of course Midland, Michigan home of Dow's HQ.
He then moved to Chicago
for the next 26 years working for Velsicol Chemical Company. He eventually
became Worldwide Vice-President of Sales and Marketing. This was a great travel
opportunity. David and his wife were able to visit every corner of the globe
except Antarctica. David then became one of
the five owners of this privately held company. David and his wife then moved
to Winchester, Hampshire, U.K.
to lead European Operations. David was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2000 and took
a year off to deal with his illness.
David finally retired from Velsicol in 2005 and
moved to Savannah, Georgia. “The cancer beast returned
in 2007 and I spent all of 2008 fighting it off. We have three grown children
and four grandchildren. They're scattered from Columbus,
Ohio (where we currently live during the
summers) to Lake County, Illinois
to Phoenix, Arizona. Golfing, fishing and playing with
the grandchildren are now my favorite activities.”
“I
feel very lucky to have had a full and interesting life since leaving BHS. I am
really looking forward to seeing everyone again and hearing/reading of their
last 50 years. Whew! We're old aren't we?”
