Sherron Herdtner (Leland, North Carolina) aka Sherry Herdtner, Sherron McCarthy or Sherron Sargent. Since graduating from Brecksville High School Sherron’s two greatest accomplishments have been raising three wonderful sons and earning a doctorate degree in nursing. After 26 years she retired as a Professor Emeritus in the College of Nursing at Kent State University.

Sherron bought a condo in 2005 in Leland, North Carolina since she spent a lot of time traveling to Wilmington, North Carolina to visit her oldest son Kevin McCarthy and family. She sold her home in Kent in 2008 and moved permanently to North Carolina. Leland is located ten minutes from downtown Wilmington in the southeast corner of the state.

Sherron has two grandsons, Tyler and Kyle, who are seven and four respectively. “I love being close to them and I am enjoying being “Grandma Buckeye.” I will never stop being an Ohio State Buckeye no matter where I live!”

Her second son Michael Sargent is in the Navy. He and his wife are stationed in Naples, Italy. Her third son Matt Sargent lives in Kent and will graduate in December with a Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Kent State University.

“I love living in North Carolina. The south is very different from the north and yet there are a lot of similarities between Wilmington and Kent. Both are college towns, have a community of artists and lots of community involvement. However, Wilmington is closer to the ocean and has better weather. I love being near the ocean and spend a lot of time at Wrightsville Beach. I also spend time playing bridge, golf and participating in many church activities. In between all these activities my grandsons keep me busy.”

“It seems like such a long time ago since I was a student at Brecksville. I have wonderful memories of dedicated teachers, good friends and fun activities. I loved walking to Kutler Drug. I felt safe in that environment. It provided a great foundation for my further education at Ohio State University, Kent State University, and New York University. My degrees have helped me to open my mind to infinite possibilities. I’m now involved in energy healing work, mindfulness meditation, and Tai Chi.”

Sherron is looking forward to the 50th reunion and connecting with friends she hasn’t seen in a long time. If any of you get to this area of North Carolina Sherron would love to have you visit.
