Joseph Hovancek
(Parma, OH)
After graduating from Brecksville
High School, Joe went to
work for Lee Turzillo Construction. He worked there until 1963 when he joined
the Navy. He continued his schooling and became a Seabee. Through this program
he became a deep sea diver and served in Vietnam,
Argentina
and Diago Garcia. After discharge from the Navy, he returned to work for Lee
Turzillo in their marine division where he worked on restoration of underwater
dams and bridges.
Joe’s wife, Kathy and
he were married 40 years ago. At that time he gave up the traveling life and
became a union carpenter. He retired from the carpentry after 30 years of
service and became a building inspector for the City of North Olmsted. He enjoyed his work there for
10 years before retiring permanently in November of 2008.
Kathy
and Joe are the proud parents of their son, Jim and daughter, Jennifer. They
also have 3 grandchildren that are the light of our lives. They are very active
in their parish where they are involved with social action. They also have a
craft business that keeps then very busy and enjoy traveling whenever the
opportunity presents itself. Joe plays golf on a league with his son and
son-in-law. All in all the past 50 years have flown by and he has enjoyed them
immensely. He can’t wait to see what the next 50 years hold in store.
