Janice Mamich (Parma, OH) Jan graduated from St. Thomas Hospital School of Nursing and then began her professional nursing career at Parma Hospital. Jan went back to school many years later through a Distant Learning Program and received her BS with a concentration in Health Care. Jan’s career began as a Staff RN for the first 4 years and then found her real love – teaching. Jan became a Staff Educator, which found her teaching all levels of employees throughout the hospital. Jan continued her love of teaching in the health care profession and retired from Parma Community Hospital after 41 years and 4 months.

Over the past 50 years, Jan has vacationed in many different places – which she will not bore you with. However, one of her fondest memories was seeing Pope Paul VI – who was within arm’s length as he passed by her in the auditorium in Rome.

Jan lives in Parma and maintains her home, yard, and being “Mom” to Sweet Pea, a beagle mix, whom she rescued 11 years ago. Over the years, Jan was an avid bowler, who highest game was 257 and now likes to golf. For all the years Jan has been swinging the club, she says you’d think I’d have a lower handicap by now.  Jan has been President of the Valleaire Golferettes for the past 2 years. Sometimes Jan feels like she is back at work with the amount of responsibility and paperwork that goes along with being president and handling complaints! Jan also visits an extended family member in Assisted Living weekly and takes her shopping, Physician Visits, restaurants, etc.

In Jan’s spare time, she has done some scrap booking.  Her first attempt, which came out, even better than anticipated was done for her nephew, Joe’s ordination to the Priesthood.  After that she decided she would take the family pictures and divide them into 2 albums – one for her brother and one for her. The last two albums turned out really great, and Jan’s not bragging! It takes time and patience to be creative. Next project might be to condense vacation pictures into one album --- a sampling of all her trips when she finds the time.

Congratulations to the Class of 1960 as we celebrate our 50th Reunion!
