Lawrence Pabin (Pinckney, MI) After graduation Larry wanted to play some more
football and through the encouragement and help from a great coach and mentor,
Joe Vadini, he enrolled at Heidelberg College where Larry completed a year then transferred
to Miami (Ohio)
University. As a walk-on, Larry earned a football scholarship at Miami and graduated with
a BS in Education four years later.
Along the way Larry met
a few Military Service Recruiters, if you remember there was a war going on in
the 60's, and chose to join The Marine Corps. After he graduated from Miami in June of 1965, Larry accepted a commission in the
Marine Corps and reported to The Naval Air Station in Pensacola, Florida
for flight training and began a 43 year career flying airplanes. The high's of his military career were having
the privilege to serve with MARINES,
the finest and most loyal fighting force in the
world, surviving unscathed a war that politicians started but had not the
stomach to finish and earning a few medals on the way.
Larry started an airline career in 1970 and retired
at the mandatory age of 60 from Northwest Airlines as a Boeing 747 Captain. Not
to be denied he lucked out and had the privilege of serving the Nomads Inc.
Travel Club as one of their Captains for another 6 years. “I miss the beauty of
flight and the stunning views of the earth below and the sky above. Cloud
formations, mountains, sunsets, sunrises, the Aurora Borealis and the clear
night sky filled with brilliant stars are awesome wonders.”
Larry lives in the small town of Pinckney,
Michigan with his wife of 37 years, Ann. Larry
has been based out of Detroit
Metro Airport
during his entire airline career. Larry and Ann have a son, a daughter and 3
grandchildren. Family, Pilates, golf, softball and motorcycling are some of
Larry’s hobbies. House and yard work take up a lot of their spare time. He is
also a Disabled American Vets volunteer.
